While I love sports, I admit I am not a boxing fan. Yet I do follow the exploits of a certain undefeated welterweight champion. Timothy Bradley, who scored a huge victory by split decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas this weekend, is a vocal advocate of veganism
. And yes, he gets enough protein
Bradley started following a vegan diet while training for a fight in 2008 and he felt such improved energy that he has continued to eat vegan whenever he is in training. He credits
his vegan regimen for keeping him energized during fights, which he believes gives him a competitive advantage over opponents. He is unbeaten at 31-0.
"It helps keep my body clean and it provides me with a tremendous amount of energy due to my body spending less energy breaking down foods like meats. This is a big key factor in my fitness," Bradley says. "You feel light. You don’t feel bulky or heavy. With a vegan diet you always have energy."
Bradley believes a vegan diet “would benefit any athlete in any sport,” and more and more world-class athletes
have gotten aboard the vegan train, including champions in everything fromtennis
and arm wrestling
to mixed martial arts
